I need to replace the water pump impeller, etc... The manual says to remove the 3 screws at the cavitation plate and place in drive and then slide out the gearcase and shiftrod from upper gear box, no mention of disconnecting shift rod, and no apparent means of doing so anyway. It took a considerable effort, including judicious pounding on a board on top of the plate just to get it down about a half inch. It will go no further. I have never used a forum before so don't know if I am stating facts and questions properly. Does anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong or what to do to release the gearcase?
