Hi all - I have a 1980 4.5 hop Evinrude long shaft for an old sailboat. Hasn't run in 5 years but the engine was good then. But there was an issue with the throttle. I want to get it going again. There seems to be way too much resistance from the throttle cable. I removed it and when it is straight it moves better but if I put a gentle curve in it, it is a tough pull. I'm thinking there must be an issue inside the cable housing and I should just replace it. Given that a replacement is about $100 I just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions and what level of resistance would be considered "normal' for a motor like this. One of the rollers in the throttle handle broke - probably from trying to force the handle to adjust the throttle, so that definitely seems problematic.
