1980 evinrude 35hp no power pack, and still working

i bought this motor, running ok,
only today i just noticed no power pack.
it is pull start, no battery.
high speed a bit cough come and goes. i read forums and somebody said power pack no good.
so i try to find it.

Who told you it is a 1980? I say it is a 1976. Check breaker points and spark plugs.

Not bad for it to be out by 4 years.----Usually it is 10 years.----It can only be a 1976 model.

The powerhead has been replaced.---Or model # plate was replaced.-----That ignition system pictured was only used on 1976 models !----Look it up to convince yourself.

yes, you are right , powerhead is 1976 and shaft is 1980.

Not only that, it was made in Australia, if that makes any difference (probably not)
