I bought a 1980 Evinrude 35hp cheap and put it aside. I finally pulled it out a couple days ago, hooked it up to my tank and pull started it and it fired and ran first pull. I figured I was going to be good with it but it didn't run smoothly so I thought I'd pull the carb off and clean it. I did a quick clean, put it back together and now it won't fire or start. I decided to get a kit and do the rebuild the right way. I'm going to rebuild and install it tomorrow.
My question is regarding the fuel pump. I noticed the first time I pulled the carb off the float bowl had fuel in it. The 2nd time I pulled it off, it was empty.
I squeezed the primer bulb and fuel shot out the end of the hose into a can. When i pulled the pull start, no fuel comes out the end of the hose.
What might be wrong with the fuel pump ? I am going to replace the fuel line from the inlet connector to the fuel pump tomorrow but could it just be a blockage ? Is there a test you can do with these off the motor ?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks !!
