1980 Evenrude, 75 hp

does it run when you give it gas?(stupid question)is the fuel line hooked up? how olds the fuel? when you take the cover off does it have a low speed adjustment knob? are you getting gas to the carb? give a little more info and im sure the people on here can point you in the right direction, i had the same problem and they helped me get squared away....(vent the fuel tank ?) it worked for me....
 
Yes, fuel line hooked up. Fuel is 6 months old. There is no speed adjustment. Yes, gas is getting to the carb. We tore powerhead apart, new rings, cleaned all 3 carbs and replaced plugs, shaved the head, and replaced all gaskets. It is hard starting. It idles at 3000 rpms. When bring choke back it is like hitting a kill switch. There is no vent on the fuel tank. Thank you!!!

is it electric start? did you carb kits or just clean them? could have a bad jet or malfunctioning float???? i would certainly put new fuel in it wether that fixes it or not(probaly not)...do a electrical diagnostic....not sure if i will get scolded but try tinboats.net forum. there is some knowledgable people there too.
 
It is an electric start. Here's what we have done to the carbs: Took all 3 carbs off. Each carb has 2 plugs where needles are. took those out and checked needles.....they looked good. There was a little dirt behind #3.....soaked in cleaner for 48 hours. Floats looked good. The boat was doing this last year with brand new gas. Thanks!!
 
Check flywheel key ( effects timing )---------------does timer base rotate freely????--------------Do you have spark that will jump a gap of 7/16" on each cylinder.---------------Put the low speed needles out about one turn from gently seated for initial start up. ------Then adjust equally for best idle.-----Are all 3 throttle plates closed at idle ???-They must be closed at idle.
