Hello everyone,

I have googled and you tubed everything I can and read multiple forum posts with no true answer. I don't have a service manual to go by so I am here to explain my situation and try and get a possible answer.

This winter my trim motor, reservoir and cylinder accumulated a large amount of water in it somehow. I noticed mid winter the trim motor sounding like it caught air and opened up the back compartment to find some oil that had leaked into compartment. The motor trimmed up and tilted down fine to trailer it. This weekend I got ready to take the boat out and tried to tilt the motor up to put on my transom saver. The motor went down and I heard the trim motor catch air and free spin. I checked the dipstick to see tan oil in the reservoir. Out of curiosity I was able to tilt the unit on its side and mostly water came out of the full port. After dropping and cleaning the reservoir bowl and filling oil the unit will trim down but not up. I took off the lines due to more contaminated oil and found that I had been pumping basically water into the cylinder. After raising and lowering the motor by hand with the lines off I was able to get all of the water out.

Now I have re connected hydraulic lines, refilled reservoir, trimmed motor down, (while holding it up and letting it pull it down) opened relief screw, picked motor back up by hand set transom saver refilled unit, closed bleeder screw, trimmed down unit and repeated about 12 times until I got tired and still not able to trim motor up. The system will tilt the motor down but not back up.

Am I bleeding the system wrong? Does anyone have the service manual or a link to explain the process? I have never had any problems with my unit until now. I am sure it froze at some point this winter. It's at he old Mercury square pump unit with round resevior on bottom.

Thanks in advance,

jonathan
