1980 35hp Evinrude lower unit interchange question

Will a 1983 Evinrude lower unit fit my 1980 Evinrude 35hp?

I just tried to switch a 1980 and a 1982 Everything is a match BUT!! the bolts on the 80 are 3/8 heads with 5/16 threads, the bolts on the 82 and I presume the 83 are 1/2 inch heads and 7/16 threads.I didnt switch because the small bolts of the 80 through the large holes of the 82 would leave slop and with all the torque may move.
Take a close look you'll see.You could redrill the exhaust housing and retap for the larger bolts
