My motor starts and idles grea

My motor starts and idles great but when I put it into gear and give it throttle it opens up to only about 7kms per hr. max. When I push the throttle to max the engine seems to flood and then stalls out? Looking for clues.

"The usual cause of that problem is not flooding but rather a lack of fuel resulting from fouled, clogged, gummed carburetors.

If you have proper compression and spark on all cylinders (check spark with plugs removed), remove, clean, and rebuild all carburetors using new complete carburetor kits.

Thousands of parts in my remaining stock. Not able to list them all. Let me know what you need and I'll look it up for you. Visit my eBay store at:

"Thanks Joe, I neglected to mention in my first post that when I started the engine with the throttle arm in neutral and the idle arm engaged on start the engine revved to the max. over 7k.I believe this should not be able to happen for obvious reasons? This leads me to believe that the owner prior to me did some work on the throttle control box and crossed the cables when putting it back together? Does this make sense? I haven't opened the control box yet to see."

"The idle arm..... Some have a adjustment whereas it can be limited, others do not. The ones that do not.... don't extend it to a degree whereas the engine races away.

No need to open the control box. Both cables on that model would be the same length. Simply observe the cables at the engine end move the throttle/shift lever somewhat. The cable that moves first is the shift cable.

A V6 engine with with fouled carburetors, running on 4 cylinders, more or less, will rev quite high in neutral as no back pressure exists. You mention 7k...... you do not want to exceed 1500, 1800 rpm in neutral. To do so is inviting a runaway engine, and before you had a chance to shut it down, connecting rods would be flying out the sides of the crankcase.

Clean the carburetors."
