1979 Wellcraft Shifting issues. Shift interrupt switch doesn't seem to be functioning properly.

I have a 1979 Wellcraft - Merc 260 with shifting issues. When in water, the boat will not shift from drive or reverse back into neutral. It shifts into gear just fine, just won't shift back into neutral. When OUT of water, it shifts just fine, understandably. I suspect my shift interrupt switch isn't functioning properly. I'm going to post a link to a video showing the shift plate moving, but the shift interrupt rocker doesn't move. Is the shift plate not put together correctly or missing parts?

Here's a link to the video of the shift assembly in action, but not working properly. https://youtu.be/oULX64WTocQ

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this is very frustrating and nearly impossible to maneuver around the marina without the boat shifting properly.

Thanks!!

When you manualy move the plate and move the roller from the V notch does the motor stumble or stall

Yes, when I move the plate/roller by hand it will stumble the motor. So the switch itself does work. But for some reason the assembly doesn't move the roller when shifting.

your video is on land so the switch will not move, there is no load on the prop. The switch will only activate in the water with a load on the prop. If your in the water and the arm is moving but not stalling the motor it may just need an adjustment.
looking for the link for it.

Yes, I know. When I changed the cap the other day, I just got one from auto zone instead of a marine cap. Will it really make a difference?

Oh really? I guess that makes sense. I suppose I'll go put her in the water and test it out. The PO had the shift interrupt switch mounted underneath the plate assembly for some reason. I put it back on top and haven't tested it in the water yet. Thanks for your help!
