"Starts right up when warm also wants to die when shifting to forward or reverse unless reved up a little higher than what I think would be normal, It's got good compression.. Thanks"

"what size engine? is choke or chokes closing all the way? fuel bulb pumped hard. shouldn't die when shifting, is it running on all cyl, compression test lately"
 
135 h.p. and compression check

135 h.p. and compression check about a week ago all between 116 and 125 psi. but couldn't get my gauge into # 6. bulb is leaking a little when pumping I'll check on the chokes...Thanks

Carbs need to come off and be cleaned.
If the compression checks out that is.

"Thanks, are those carbs. from those older Mercs. pretty much the same? I'm asking because I have a few old outboards that are for parts only and would like to redo a carb or two from the spare engines before I tackle a carburetor off a running unit. Thanks again"
