I have a 70 hp 1979 Johnson th

I have a 70 hp 1979 Johnson that has shown a small amount of oil coming from the lower end - leaking out from in front of the prop. I noticed the leak on my driveway after running the boat for a few hours. Is this an oil seal gone bad? Does it mean water can easily get in if the oil is getting out?

"It is most likely unburn't 2 cycle oil. It is not uncommon for unburn't engine oil to expose itself, especially running on the hose for that long.
Check you lower unit for proper level and water, it is most likely OK."

"Okay, thanks. I ran the boat in the bay for a few hours and noticed the oil the next morning on my driveway. So, it wasn't running on the hose. I'll check the level and water.

"Just thinkin, this could also be caused by to much oil in the gas. Should be a 50:1 mix."
