"Hi I am new to this - so please accept apologies in advance if I make any mistakes. I have a 1979 x 100 hp Johnson Javelin, it runs very well for about 9 - 10 minutes and then the alarm sounds, I have dropped the leg and the water pump and impeller appear to be OK - (I will replace them), my next step is to try and get to the thermostat - is this a wise move and how do I get to it easily? I cannot justify the expense of taking it to a out board place($100 / hour where I live + 800km of freight!!) so realistically the motor is not worth it. If I can get theparts and do it myself I am happy enough to have a go. Any help would be appreciated - cheers Dave"

"CHCEK FOR BLOWN HEAD GASKET,

"CHCEK FOR BLOWN HEAD GASKET, DO A COMPRESSION CHECK. Had same prob on my 115 shop said rebuild for $2000/ $16 head gasket runs great!"

"Most bad impellers look fine.

"Most bad impellers look fine. They "take a set" from being cramped up all day long, and then no longer pump like they should. I would replace the waterpump first. It will probably solve all of your problems."

thanks for the advice from you

thanks for the advice from you both - I will try the impeller etc first and take it from there - cheers
