"i have a 17' venture runabout ski/bass have had trouble plaining. have tried sand bagging the bow. trim tilted all the way down. i finally changed the prop from 19 degree (13") to 17 degree. that helped plain the boat out better, but the last few trips out seems to have reverted back to the original - plains in about 30 seconds or better if someone walks up front. any suggestions??"

buy a hydrofoil.

mine is a 16.5 venture '79 rendezvous 3 and when you hammer down you couldnt see for a ways then i bought asting ray hydrofoil and she planes and trolls magnificently.$50 well spent

you can get one on this site o

you can get one on this site or your local boat store or cabellas.

some people call it a whale tail.

there are several different brands out there but i settled an the stingray.

my last message may not have posted. i bought a sport se300 from bass pro didnt help - do you think i should shim it (down in rear up in front??)

that one is shaped a little di

that one is shaped a little different than mine and according to my cabelas book about $10 more.

is your tnt working?

you can also buy a wedge for your motor to get a little more bottom end.

what kind of rpms are you achieving?

A 17' boat with a 140 HP s

A 17' boat with a 140 HP should fly. So this means there is something wrong with the boat or the motor. You could have the motor checked on a dynomometer at a shop ( money well spent ).You should do a compression test and a spark check to make sure you have spark at each cylinder that jumps a gap of 7/16" or better.

compression was checked 6 mont

compression was checked 6 months ago 125-130 all 4 cylinders. base timer was replaced also. seems to run perfect at cruise - no low end.

one thing i did change was oil

one thing i did change was oil add't - have been using mercury synthetic oil - maybe the cause - i'm really searching!!

"Here is an example of the whale tail / dol-fin wings on my lark. They keep the bow down without having to sacrifice speed by either pointing the motor at weird angles or adding weight to the bow.

What's it like with a 180-

What's it like with a 180-200lb person in the front chair at trolling speeds? Level? It looks normal enough considering all the passengers are in the stern but it is more important what it does when moving at speed (and driving blind).

the driving blind is what i ha

the driving blind is what i hate - the bows up and i cant see a thing. is just the design and nature of a bass boat?

"I don't really know - I&#

"I don't really know - I've only owned open concept tri-hull fishing boats, some of these other fellas could answer that question. How much fuel and cargo are you storing at the stern? Can any of it be stored up front?"

21 gallon fuel cell 1/2 full 8

21 gallon fuel cell 1/2 full 83lbs. 3 deep cycle dry cell batteries 70lbs each. 7 lb. anchor. 350 lbs motor assembly. me 210lbs. - about 860 - 900 lbs in the rear alone.

"A pick of the boat ashore/on

"A pick of the boat ashore/on trailer taken from the side, might give an idea. But my guess is that a 'wedge' on the transom might be the easiest solution to reduce the trim angle. 'Normal' transom angle should be 11 - 13 degree's giving the possibility to trim the engine 'negative' about 6 degree to make planning easier."

ive shimed the hydrofoil - did

ive shimed the hydrofoil - didnt cost a thing...next i think i'll try the wedge on the transom - was on my mind already! thanks for all your input guys. let you know how it ends up - maybe this weekend.

Put a timing light on each cyl

Put a timing light on each cylinder and see if you are indeed running on all cylinders-----That boat should fly.I used to have a 17' boat with a 115HP and it would do 54 MPH.

checked plugs all looked good

checked plugs all looked good - no indifferences. checked fuel filter and the screen was full of debris. (maybe my problem).

"fuel restriction is big prob.

"fuel restriction is big prob.

have you thought of installing a water seperator?
if you ever get water in your gas it will give you fits, its happened to me with one of my small obs."

was thinking the same thing -

was thinking the same thing - i saw brass/plastic/rubber and metal shavings...i will monitor to see how and what type of fuel im getting.

plained very well within 5 sec

plained very well within 5 seconds... pulled the hydrofoil off and retested back to normal. put i back on normal without shimming and was great!

fuel filter screen fixxed it!!!!

good im glad to here it.

ha

good im glad to here it.

have you looked into a fuel/water seperator?
it will replace your inline and keep water out of your motor.
