1979 35hp Johnson mounting questions

"I have a 1979 35hp short shaf

"I have a 1979 35hp short shaft tiller model, that the tiller was removed and converted to remote steer and power, this motor is on a 15" transom boat, I want to put it on a 21 inch transom boat, both boats are rated for 50hp max .. but the shaft length is the problem ..

I know t-h marine makes a mini jacker to raise the motor for long shaft engines, on 15Inch transoms.. but I want to do the reverse. can I flip this bracket over to lower ? or I could also weld up a stainless steel bracket to do this .. would this hurt the engine in any way ?"

"Easier said than done .. Ive searched every boat dealer within 75 miles and that is a bunch .. no one either has a clue or dosent have it.
I looked on ebay for a used one none on there would fit , or was only the extension but not the longer shaft and water tubes
and the ones I can order off the internet NEW are 185 - 285 to much money for that .. I guess Ill just wait it out till one falls in my lap ... I still think there has to be another way"

I once saw a guy's boat with a home made set up on the back for a motor mount. He wanted to raise his high perf motor to get the prop closer to the surface of the water. I guess he didn't want to buy a jack-plate. You kind of want to do the opposite. His was made up of a couple of steel plates, about 1 ft. square, and 4 tubes about 2 inch OD x 1 ft. long. I'm not sure of the wall thickness of the pipes, but he used something strong. The tubes were each bent in a slight 's' pattern, like they would do at a muffler shop, and then welded to the plates, one in each of the corners. This raised the motor up a couple of inches. So ... 1 plate bolts to the back of the boat, and the tubes extend out about 1 ft. back out to the other plate. The motor bolts to the other plate. You could make something similar to drop the height of your motor down. Be sure not to drop it too low that back wash water will swamp it everytime the boat comes down off of plain. His looked like it worked pretty good. He had about a 150 hp on it.

Sounds like you live in a &#34

Sounds like you live in a " why don't you buy a new motor " state and it sounds like you need a good old repair shop there. Trouble is there really is no money is dealing with old motors.

"Ive found several extensions

"Ive found several extensions on Ebay but all same hp are for 82 and newer from what the sellers listing says. Anyone here know for sure what models will fit a 79 35hp motor .. will a 80s model fit this 79 model as far as the bolt patterns ?

And I have thought about making a 5" drop down from Stainless steel, but the biggest prob is the steering wheel rack and pinion rod .. dont think it will reach that far over transom"

Sorry mate. I think you gave up too quickly. The brp catalogs will give you the part# and the advanced search will tell you what years they are used.In short take the initiative to figure it out.
