Gentleman I am in need of assistance. I have two issues I need help with one is the removal of the shift lever mechanism and he other is the proper procedure to replace the gear oil in the lower unit.

First: I can completely remove all bolts and nuts to free the shift lever mechanism from the engine. But I can not remove the assembly from the gear mechanism allowing me to remove the shift mechanism from the motor. What step am I missing?

Second: I have downloaded the manual form my engine and in the maintenance section it states to remove the vent screw then the drain port screws. I can locate the drain plug easily however, I have two ports above the anti cavitation plate, One is a plastic screw and states flush, the other is approximately 2 inches to the left. which one do i remove and how do I replace the oil in the lower unit/

any help would be greatly appreciated.

The power head has to come off to remove the tiller handle assembly, but if you can sneak the cables in around it, removing the "guts" of the tiller handle will allow the throttle cable to do it's job.

On the lower unit, remove TWO screws (one large and one small) and let it drain overnight. Then force new gear oil in the bottom until it comes out the top. When it does, put the TOP screw in (to keep it leaking out), the the bottom.

PS: On those two screws, don't confuse the flush screw for the upper (small vent screw).

That was my concern, so I don't remove the larger black screw where the word flush is stamped? That one and a smaller one are the only two screws I have on that side.

Not sure if I am skilled enough to remove the power head, but it was frustrating to get everything that holds the shift handle mechanism in place removed and it still not come out of the engine. Could you go a little more in depth about running the throttle cable?

First of all, you need the remote control hardware on the motor to hook up the cable. Is there anything there? If not, you'll have to scrounge it up off a motor that has it.
