1978 Merc 70 HP Tilt Lock Problem

Just purchased a used '78 70hp. Everywhere I read that the tilt lock on a manual lift should unlock in neutral and forward and lock in reverse. Mine is locked in neutral, forward, and reverse and only unlocks when I go into reverse and pull down the lever to full throttle. At that point, you can hear a definite click from the mechanism and the lock releases. Is this normal for this model and year or is there something wrong?

No. I suspect someone put the black plastic shifter cam in wrong. Requires dropping the LU to fix.

It should lock in neutral as well.You need to put it in fwd to lift.Preferably switched off
