"I repaired a 1978 9.9 johnson.I replaced both bad coils and the power pack before I could get it running again.It ran great.The guy brought it back a couple of days later andsaid it wouldn't shift into reverse or forward.Simple to figure out that he spun the prop bushing.You think all would be fine now.Not so.I can't get a spark,no matter what I try,after I knew it ran great when it left me.Get this.I pulled off the carb and found water in it and when I looked inside the intake ,I even found sand..I found sand under the cowl when I first opened it up too.I cleaned out everything as good as I could with compressed air but it is tough to pull start and the pull start even binds up on the flywheel sometimes.Is this guy not telling me something?From what I see,I think it went in the drink.What do you think?Also,this is only run in salt water!Any ideas?Should I give up on this?Is it possibly junk now?Please HELP ME!"

"only guessing ,that it did not have sand and water in it when you looked at it last,check cylenders for other issues!"
 
"If the customer is expecting

"If the customer is expecting you to fix the motor I would bring him in and show him what you found. Make sure he understands that the motor has probably gone under, maybe he loaned it to someone.

I have found that if you can show someone that you found out the customer caused the problem then it is up to them to pay for repairs."
