1978 Johnson 35hp shift rod disconnect

Trying to get the lower unit down to replace the impeller and cant figure out how to disconnect the shift rod on this model. The port on the side of the shaft has a rod connecter but is doent line up with the port and I dont watn to bend the rod by forcing up so I can get a flathead on the nut. Thanks for any help you can provide.

That is where it disconnects.-----Don't worry about bending anything.----Take one screw out to disconnect the shift rod.-----Line up the notch BEFORE putting the screw in on re-assembly

Got it off. Really appreciate the help. Thanks for the forward advice when I go back on with it. This is my first boat and its been fun working around it.
