Please let me know if this has been answered already. I tried looking but didn't find anything like my issue. Please provide a link if you know where this has been discussed.

I can sometimes get it started from the key from a cold start but it has become fewer and fewer. If it will not start, I take the cover off and have someone turn the key while I am pumping the throttle manually. I can always get it running by doing this (So Far). My shop thought I was crazy when I told them the process I had to take, they just told me to hit the choke but I know there is something more.

When I hit the key with the choke it feels like it wants to go but will "kick" once and then stop. It will then proceed to crank but not ignite, and then I follow my process of taking the cover off and manually pumping the throttle and it will kick right off after a few seconds.

Engine runs excellent despite its age, this is the only issue and Id love to just hit the key and go.

My friends 78 70HP did exactly the same thing; turned out to be the starter could not turn the engine fast enough for ignition. Starter was rebuilt by shop and now it starts right up. Might be your problem. Good luck.

Pumping the throttle does absolutely nothing in helping the motor to start.---------There are no accelerator pumps in the carburetors !!!-----------Pumping the throttle does nothing.-----------Are you operating the choke switch ? ---Is the choke solenoid clicking when you operate the switch.-----Are you raising the fast idle throttle lever ?
