"I'm reposting this questi

"I'm reposting this question because I had the year shown incorrevtly as '87 should be 1978. But still need direction on checking out the problem.
In need of a little help in on this one , please. It's a friends motor (60ELCUC)so I'm getting the story second hand. Motor had been running fine - went out Saturday and then the battery ran down, would not crank or start. Got home after a $500 tow from Lake St.Clair. Charger was put on the battery- cranks now but no spark. I checked the rectifier and it's bad, we will replace this. But I don't know how to check the electronic modual. Would a bad rectifier cause no spark? I suspect, but can't verify that reverse polarity when recharging the battery did a bunch of damage, is this possible?
Appreciate your help on this ... thanks

"Joe, the rectifier in itself

"Joe, the rectifier in itself will not cause the loss of spark.

It may however, be indicative of an ignition problem. If the stator went bad on him, and toasted the rectifier in the process, that could also explain the loss of spark.

He should have the entire ignition system tested to determine the problem..."
