"i have a 1978 mercury 80 hp,model 800,4 cylinder.and thanks in advance for even reading this and trying to help.motor is running bad.had carbs rebuilt, replaced the stator and trigger due due wires breaking into from being green inside rubber.after replacing stator and trigger, found #3 plug not firing and #4 firing very weak.ii checked the coils with an ohm meter and they showed good, but just to make sure i swapped the #1 coil with the #3 and the #2 coil with the #4.#3 stll no fire and #4 weak.#1 and #2 firing great with spark jumping 1/2 inch or better.ok heres where i need help.dealer wanted $65 to check the switch box which the wife says i can not spend,so i removed the coil wire a the switch box for the #1 and #3 coils and swaped the wires at the switch box for the #2 and the #4 coil.only installed one plug at a time so the motor would not crank to check the fire again.now #1 and #2 plugs weak or not firing and the #3 and #4 plugs are firing great,so if my thinking is right the switch box is bad?just need to run this past someone.i am on some pretty heavy pain medication due to health problems and not sure if i am looking at this right.any and all help or comments would be great.thanks again,Bill.if someone wants to call me to help.please do.770-718-9160"
