1978 80 hp Main Harness Connection

How does the main harness to the engine connect to the harness in the engine?

That is the confusing part. I've been tugging and pulling, trying to get the socket to separate. I don't want to break anything as parts are hard to come by.
Does the socket have to be twisted or are there just pins that align it.

The pins align it.There may be a spring clamp on the control side of the connection,but it shouldn't be that difficult to separate them,I'm assuming that the engine harness and control harness are connected,they should pull apart.Unless there is corrosion inside the pins.

I saw the spring and didn't think it as a clamp. I'll go out and work on it some more. BTW, I have less clues then you do.
