took my 1978 70 h.p. out today

took my 1978 70 h.p. out today and put it in gear it runs fine but if you give any throttle at all it dies right out. any thoughts would be appreciated thanks for your help

That type problem usually results from either fouled carburetors or a sticking timer base under the flywheel.

joe how can i tell if the timer base is sticking think i cleaned carbs real good but will re do them thanks for your input into the situation
