"You have sadly removed the pivot pin (#13) for the shift lever (#33) SEE THIS DIAGRAM FROM THE BRP PARTS WEBSITE

You need to check that the shift mechanism is working properly. If not you will have to remove it again and fiddle about until you can get the hole in the lever to line up with the hole in the case and then refit it. If you cannot get it the pin back though the hole in the lever by fiddling about the alternative is dismantling the gear box to the point where you can refit it properly.

You won't make the mistake again.

PS please dont SHOUT"

"Use a sharp pointed scribe to gently locate the hole in that internal lever and center it as good as possible.

Leaving the scribe in the hole and thru the lever if successful, tile the engine up as far as it will go and lock it there. Still with the scribe inserted, shift into forward gear.

Grind the end of that long shoulder screw pivot pin so that it tapers off to a sharp edge.

Now gently remove the sharp pointed scribe and replace it with the pivot pin screw. If this procedure fails, you can either turn the engine upside down and try OR dismantle the lower unit as needed. Let us know how you make out.

Thank you for your input. I took the screw out then immediately put it back in with no problem. Does this tell me that it didn't move when I pulled the screw out? The shift seems to be working.
Thank you.

Hopefully you have got away with it. If the shift is working properly then I guess you have.

"This is Lucky Ray.

I have a 1978 Evinrude, 35 hp that hasn't been started in a while. I have done all the maintenance on it, and noticed there were pieces of straw hanging out of the ports, where the water comes out of the heads. These are the top two ports. The ports seem to be clogged. Is there an easy way to try to open these ports, other than taking the heads apart? They seem to possibly have mud dauber nests or straw bees.
I appreciate whatever help. Thanks, Lucky Ray."

"The 1978 35hp model has but one cylinder head. I suspect that the outlet you speak of are the exhaust relief ports on the back of the engine just below the hood pan. If so, you can try using a piece of single strand steel wire and compressed air. That combination usually cleans anything out."
