"Just bought a used 25 model #

"Just bought a used 25 model # 25RL78C. Been in storage for 10 years. The Marina where it was stored was suppose to run and service the engine every year. I'am thinking what if they did'nt do this.

Looking over the engine and checking the spark plugs everything looked OK. Put new gas in and started it. Real smoky at first but ran ok. Water pump was spitting out a good stream and and a little water spitting out the top exhaust ports and I also noticed a stream coming from the front of the shaft about midway down.

The problem is it will not accelerate up, probably only 1/4 throttle at best.

What should I look for and do to this engine to get it up to speed.

Did'nt not get a service manual with this so I do not have any specs on spark plugs and such.

Any help would be real appreciated."

"The engine running real smoky at first might indicate that the marina did not (get it ready) service the engine before you picked it up.

If that engine has compression and spark (ignitioin) your explanation of the problem indicates that the carburetor is fouled. In which case, the cure would be to remove, clean, and rebuild it using a complete carburetor kit."
