1978 115hp evinrude water leak

1978 engine, small water drip coming from under head or gasket cover when running with muffs. Cannot see exactly where drip is coming from. Any ideas?

make sure its not the wtr hose conn on hd...but,prob lking fr hd gasket.thats more common than the wtr jacket cvr.

I've done auto work, but outboards are new to me. Any advice on replacing the head gasket? Will the head come off with the water jacket in place or should you also replace the water jacket gasket at the same time? Thanks!

the wtr jacket cover,is screwed on the head w/a bunch of 7/16 bolts...since u have the hd off,it would be wise to clean and repl that gasket......except,for the broken bolts u r gonna encounter...

Tight seized bolts...... Use a hand held propane torch to help loosen them.

Installing head..... torque head bolts to 18 to 20 foot pounds in the following sequence.

5.....6
1.....2
4.....3
8.....7
