Hello all
I have never noticed water coming from or even that this hole has there, on the side of the outdrive near the lowest nut of the three that hold the outdrive on. I started the boat after the winter for the first time and thats when I noticed the spray from this hole. Can someone tell what this is for and what might be happening? Thanks

BT Doctur I am not refering to #21 in the diagram. This is a hole directly above the bottom bolt on the upper part of the outdrive on the port side. 3A-11 of your link shows this side of the outdrive but does not show this hole as it is on the underside of the housing above the nut. While I wasrunning the motor on muffs I saw water squirting from this hole. What is this for?

If the hole that you are describing is the same as the "chief" is describing then the purpose is to allow water/exhaust to exit.

With a thru proppeller exhaust if the prop was to get clogged up with lets say rope or fish net and you were in SHARK infested waters, would you jump out of your boat with a knife in your hands to CUT the rope/net away??

Thank the marine gods for putting is two extra holes for the water and exhaust to escape from and not shut down the motor 100 miles off shore in SHARK infested waters.............I hope this makes sense!!

Can you take a picture of the area with your finger pointing at the hole you are refering to??? It would save a lot of time if we can see it for our selves and not guess..........

Although the pics are tough to see clearly I would say no way that hole should be there.......The area above the hole inside the housing is a water pocket.

Good chance is corroded thru.

Anyone else with thoughts???

Doea the hole look like it was drilled or does it look like rot?

View attachment 331 Click and it gets bigger. Ok I guess I'm doomed:(,sure looks like corrosion to me now, after the experts not knowing about any holes that are suppose to be there. Any opinions on whether or not this could be patched with JB Weld and if a patch gave out, what would happen if I was out in those Shark infested water? Overheat?
