1977 Mercury 50 hp tilt and trim will only go down. Help please!!

Recently I replaced the battery in my boat and since then the tilt and trim will only go down. All wires were hooked up exactly as I have taken them off when it worked with the old battery. So I don't really know where to begin. From what I can tell it is a factory tilt and trim with the electric motor and pump inside the boat. I have looked on the internet trying to find a solution and a lot of similar questions say it is the solenoid. Is there a way to test it? Where to get a new one? Can I bypass it? Please help!! You can get a new one from here,http://www.marineengine.com/parts/m...-4855152-usa/hydraulic-pump-and-control-panel and yes,you can jump it.A screwdriver and cross the poles on the down solenoid.It is most likely an add on because tilt trim on 50HP wasn't standard in '77.I used the schematic for a 115,but same thing.
