Hey- first time posting here. First boat and first 2 cycle motor. I inherited this motor that hasnt run right in a long time and i want to get it going smoothly.
Turns on fairly easily with a few pumps of the throttle lever. I will warm it up and it will idle smoothly for 10-30 seconds. Then it will idle rough for another 20 seconds and die ( sneezing and popping).
I cleaned the carbs out but it seems they were fairly clean to begin with. I fully disassembled but it seems somebody was in there not long ago. This made no change. Spark plugs were replaced with OEM champions and gapped properly. The tips look pretty good. The coils look like theve been replaced judging from their wire colour freshness. Wired look good too.
I was getting intermittent spark through the power pack on cylinder 2. As diagnosed with a test light during cranking. I swapped sensor wires, coils, and plug wires to be sure and the problem stuck to the second cylinder every time. I have since replaced the power pack and it runs very well at high speeds. Sometimes it boggs getting up to speed though. When it comes down to idle again it will run smoothly for a short time, then rough, then sputter and die. Throttle plates fully closed at idle and open in parallel.
