1977 johnson 70 hp

i am going to take off the jet drive that is on my 70 and put on a regular lower unit. my motor does not have a bellcrank rod. do i have to remove the powerhead to take the rod out of old motor and then also to replace it in mine. thanks

If the bellcrank is missing then you have to remove powerhead to install one.

Thanks racerone. Not what I wanted to hear but I was thinking that was the case. You would think they would have made it so you could replace that rod a llittle easier by only dropping the lower unit

Well there is no need to have that part serviced /replaced for the life of the motor, that is why there is no provision for it.------Sparkplugs are replaced on a regular basis , so they are easy to get at.
