1977 Johnson 70 hp trim problem and how to fix if it is the solenoid.

I recently had my trim quit working. If you hit the up button the solenoid would click. If you hit the down button you wouldn't hear anything. I removed the solenoid and checked it and it was not making good contact across the contacts. I ordered a new solenoid but it was a week out. The repaired solenoid worked great. The new one still hasn't showed up. I ended up having a brush problem as well. I cleaned the brushes and it works like a new one!
