"I have a 1977 evinrude 35 Hp.

"I have a 1977 evinrude 35 Hp. It cranks great but after i run it cuts off and will not crank until it sits for about 30 minutes. It seems it would be a exhaust problem , but I have plenty of water running out of the exhaust."

What do you mean by " crank "?? Is this your reference to the starter turning it over or the motor running by itself?????
 
The motor cranks up and i pull

The motor cranks up and i pull out of the dock and it runs fine for a while . Then it just quits in the middle of the lake and i have to either be pulled in or wait. After a while it will crank again.
 
Replace your "Black Box&#3

Replace your "Black Box". Sounds like it gets warm and quits working. Had the same problem on a 60 hp Evinrude. Best of luck to you.

"David, the "black box" is a powerpack - fairly easy to swap out, and yes, the description of your issue tends to indicate that as a "potential problem" - but it could also be the stator itself (or a couple of other things).

Some of these are not the cheapest items. So I would make sure it is the problem before you just go about "swapping" parts trying to find the issue.

You can check most of your ignition components with a multi-meter and a good service or repair manual.

If you don't want to go that route (or don't feel comfortable doing it), kick in for an hours labour and have a shop look at it for you. That could well be cheaper in the long run...."
