1977 evinrude remote control

Hi Jeff I have an '82 and I had to remove it from it's mount and the screws to slit it are on the right side(the side you can't see when it's mounted). I think there also might be a screw or bolt holding the throttle lever from the Left side also. Hope this helps...
 
Loosen the screw holding the lever about 3-4 turns, give it a HARD knock to release the handle, remove the screw and handle.
Then unscrew the screws holding it together and split.
 
On the remotes i pulled apart i didn't have to remove the throttle. Remove the mounting bolts on the front [they should go all the way thru] lay controller on it's face and remove the 3 phillips or bolts, raise warm up lever slitely and unit should come apart.
 
While you are in there, clean the old grease in the shift and throttle cams. The grease in mine had oxidized in its 35 years and had become rock hard.
