I had a snowmobile that did that.
1. Air was getting into the fuel line via
tiny splits at one end of line.
2. Fuel filter was clogged.

When the motor was running it was fine
but when you stopped it would not go.
Then the clog would heal itself or the
fuel bowl would fill again and it
would run fine. Has to do with
suction most likely.
