I removed the lower gearcase and put in a new impeller and gaskets. I'm trying to reconnect the shift linkage and am having fits trying to get it done. The opening is so narrow and the pin in the gearcase does not want to slide into the shift rod connector. I tried prying the shift rod connector open a bit but I don't want to break it. Any thoughts?

Pull the shift rod up from the gearcase and operate the shift lever to bring the upper rod down.---------Use a screw driver to open the gap on the connecter.-----Rod should slide right in.--Do not install the screw until you have the notch lined up with the hole.

Thanks racerone. With some assistance I finally got the linkage reattached. Not hardly enough room to get a screwdriver in the gap. I had the screw in place before attempting to insert the pin from the gearcase and I think the screw was preventing the pin from going all the way in. This was for sure not a one man job for us amatures. Got it all reassembled though and seems to be running pretty good. I appreciate all your responses.
