Hi all I have a 1977 Evinrude 140 and have ordered two different impeller / water pump repair kits. The first one I ordered from iBoats.com and after I got my LU dropped (darn shift linkage, haha) I discovered that my driveshaft uses a different impeller key than what was listed on iBoats' parts lookup.
Oh well.
In addition to needing an impeller, I realized that once I had everything apart I really needed the whole kit with gaskets and a housing, etc.
I hopped on marineengine.com and used their parts lookup. I typed in the model # found on the engine's tag and it suggested a kit from Sierra, part #18-3393.
I thought that using the motor's serial number would be the no-fail way to get the right part. I was wrong. This kit has the same style of impeller and key that the first kit had.
Here is my driveshaft.
Here is my original impeller.
Here is the style that I was sent twice.
Notice that my impeller uses the plastic wedge type keeper and both of the new impellers use a half round slotted style.
Is it possible that my lower unit is from a pre-1977 motor?
I looked up the 1976 motors and there is no 140hp listed.
I'm stumped!
Any help will be appreciated!
