I am trying to calibrate a sen

I am trying to calibrate a sender unit to an OMC temp guage. The sender unit is mounted to touch the cylinder head. Does anone know the normal operating temperature of a 1977 70HP?

Best to have a clearance of .0

Best to have a clearance of .010 between the sensor and the cylinder head in order to avoid false readings.

I believe the opening temperture of the thermostat is 143°.
