1977 70 hp johnson hooked up batt backwards

" In a hurry as usual and reversed batt leads .I realised the error before trying to start the engine. Now when i hook up the battery it arcs,what have i destroyed. I asume rectifier but where is it? This engine has always been a great performer (still has original plugs)even after this happened "

"Freedom..... The rectifier is a small, approx 1" round, cylindrical object, about 1" high, that has a triangular base. It is attached with two screws to the starboard (right) side of the block right alongside of the vertical wiring terminal. It will have leading from it, a RED, Yellow, and a YELLOW/GRAY wire.

You are correct in assuming that this is what has blown as it will not tolerate reverse polarity even for a fraction of a second.
