Maybe someone can help me out with a fitment question? I've been talking to a guy with the above motor. The clutch dog he's taken out of the gear case had three teeth on one side and six on the other. Apparently the original had three and three. He believes that in 1978 a change was made and the gears were then sold in a set with the 3/6 clutch dog.
He needs a new clutch dog and forward gear. We have the original 3/3 clutch and forward gear, but he wants the 3/6 clutch.
Looking at 1978 models gear case the 398488 gear set is recommended. Will this work on the 1977? Is the clutch in this kit the 3/6? Thanks for any help. I figure one of the regulars has been through this before at some point.
