1977 15hp with no spark

My friend asked me to help him with his 77 15hp model 15R77MIt wouldnt start sputter backfire nothingI confirmed that there was good fuel flow my starting at the tank and working my way to the carb confirming the operation of each component. I compression tested and confirmed good compression at 94/93 PSINext I spark tested with a 7/16 gap and had no spark. Dropped down to 1/8 and still no spark. I put a simple light tester on and no spark. Replace the plugs and properly gapped and torque tighted them to specConfirmed the good condition of the leadsGot out the CDI book and started testing according to the trouble shooting sequence Found the trigger to be out of resistence ohms by about 500-600 ohms and one of the trigger leads to the harness was fried. I figure it needs a new trigger I pulled the fly wheel and found the trigger but... There is no stator. Not what I was used to seeing anyway and what appears as #43 on the part diagram for this motors magneto system. I expected a donut looking thing under the flywheel and found what appears to be a trigger and what I assume is a coil. Am I missing something here! Is there a traditional stator on these motors? Ill try to get a pick up from under the flywheel. Thank you
