1977 15hp Rude shift problems

I have a 1977 15 hp Evinrude, I was cruising along and the motor shut down. I went to put the engine into neutral and it wont shift. I tried to spin the prop, checked for any obstructions up top,. Nothing. What is goingon with this thing? Lower unit? Can I get this thing apart and back together? Thanks in advance!

did u reduce the throttle,i think ,it wont let u shift at a high throttle setting,other than that,look at linkage on eng very close for prob.,the shift rod conn,is just above the lower unit,after u take out bolts,it drops down and u can get to the TOP bolt to remove.....i'd rather rebuild a v6 gcase than a 15...

Does the motor turn over and spin the prop or is something froze up?
