1976 Johnson throttle issue

Hello all. I have a '76 Javelin 85hp. I recently had the shift cable replaced. Now the throttle with increase speed but, to slow down, I have to push down on the warm up lever. What do I adjust to fix this problem? Of course, it was working before the mechanic replaced the cable but he doesn't know how to make it work now. Suggestions are appreciated.

Sounds like you need to adjust the throttle cable.
Remove the cable at the engine, where it connects to the throttle lever and make sure the throttle lever is against the idle stop.
Adjust the knurled knob on the cable until the end of the cable will slide onto the pin of the throttle lever.
See how that works for you.
