Hi
A total novice to engines and a first poster!
Tried to start my Johnson 70hp today after being garaged since Sept 2005. It had a full tank of fresh fuel then and has been sat idle since. It started after some time coughed and spluttered a bit then stopped. This happened for most of the afternoon. I cleaned the gauze filter at the engine as it was 30% clogged this did help to start it quicker but still died after approx 30 seconds. It seemed to be starved of fuel catching the engine just before stalling i pumped the fuel line ball vigorously this kept the engine running it tried to stall at least three times and each time i kept it going by pumping fuel. Any ideas? I'm unsure as to whether the fuel is bad or whether the priming ball is faulty (I dont actually understand how the primer works)
Regards Chris
