Hello ,
I have a strange problem with a 1976 Johnson 115 .
It ran super the last time it was used ( Oct. 2011 ) but the boat has been stored in a dry garage with the motor cover on it since then .
Bought a new Interstate battery last week and when I first connected it I tested the tilt motor , things seemed fine.
When I turned the key to test the starter engaging the flywheel it lifted up just enough to touch the flywheel teeth and then acted like no power at all was available , and I noticed a sparking at the positive battery terminal .
I disconnected the battery cables and after re-connecting them I got nothing .... as if there is no battery .
I have cleaned all cable connections with a drill and wire brush , they are shiny new .
Today I installed a brand new Solenoid , and the exact .....identical ... chain of events repeated with the spark at the positive terminal . Now nothing , not even a sound out of the trim /tilt motor ........ so I am assuming I ruined the brand new Solenoid .
