"I've got a 1976 Evinrude

"I've got a 1976 Evinrude 20hp. i was tinkering today and got it running, kind of. Heres my problem. It ran fine for a moment, and died. I tried to start it again; it would fire, then backfire and die. I pulled the plugs to have a look and they were wet and black, plus the gap on the plug was squashed closed! What happened?"

Might have the wrong plugs in it. I would put a J4C or a J6C in it

WOW I've been running the

WOW I've been running the wrong plugs the whole time!! I replaced the plugs with a J6C and what a difference! Purrs like a kitten. Thanks.
