First Post and first attempted Major Repair.

I was leaking a "chocolate froth" from where the lower gear housing attaches.

I have the lower gear housing removed and see the same "chocolate froth" in the area around the water pump area (not in the exhaust).

Any ideas??

Thanks for the quick reply! This is after coming back from the lake. No muffs used. It has always dripped some gear oil but it just started leaking the chocolate froth. I also noticed the gear oil was low - even after filling before this last trip. I filled all the way to the fill hole (too much?)

I think Id be looking at the drive shaft seals below the pump but it would be wise to pressure test the whole gearcase or just replace the other seals ( prop shaft and shift rod and drain and filler screw seals while you are at it

It should never drip gear oil .... if gear oil can get out water can get in, but 2 strokes always drip some unburnt 2T oil

Correct fill level is until oil flows from the level screw hole

Best to have that gearcase checked out.------They were only used in the 73 to 77 model years.------And it depends on your area if you can find reasonable / good used ones.-----A seall kit is CHEAP and easy to install.

I say it's the oil you put in the gas, gone through the engine, done it's job, and expelled, where it emulsifies with spent cooling water.
