1976 and 1985 Side Controls Johnson

Is a 1976 75 HP Johnson wirein

Is a 1976 75 HP Johnson wireing harness the same as a 1986 70 HP Johnson? Also will I be able to use the existing power trim and tilt?

"Tim, I'm quite sure that all the round red plugs are compatible, that the 86 and 76 would be the same. However I don't think the T&T are the same. The 76 was on the starboard side of the engine. The 86 was in the center of engine. Also the trim & tilt wires were separate from the round red plug. Hope this helps, Brian"

Would anyone know if I would be able to change out the mount from the 76 75HP to the 86 70HP so I would have T&T?"
 
"I would just swap powerheads.

"I would just swap powerheads. I cant think of any prob's of doing that at present.The only thing ,maybe,would be a shifter clearance,or shifter prob,which would be easier to over come,between those 2,than all u have in mind.Another prob,would be if the driveshaft splines changed in those years,...i dont think they did,but i am not certain.On the BRP site,i looked the 2 up for ya,but i am not at the shop today,no access to my parts books,and of course the 2 dont match,but were prob superceded part numbers a few times."
