This motor has the mercarb, could some one please tell me what rebuild kit I would need or gasket numbers and needles I would need. My other question would be the needle valve appears to work by gravity alone and gets stuck. should there be a spring on this There is no notch for one. I am a complete newb and would very much like to learn about this. Any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated.
All the best Don

To get the correct carb kit you need the serial #. The needle valve does work by gravity and should not be getting stuck it also works by fuel pressure pushing on it. But the needle should move freely regardless. Sounds like your carb needs a good cleaning.

Flylngscott Thank you very much for the reply. I put in the serial number and did come up with the parts needed. On the needle valve part, it says it comes with a spring. This old one does not have one, so I was confused if I had the right parts for the serial number 4310128. I am more of a hunter than a fisher but the boats are important for me to get to camp and this motor has been around for a long time with others working on it. I have been trying to learn by books and internet and have been able to do the bottom end as well as the electrical. I could not find very much information on the mercarb for this motor. As well the more I looked the more I got confused. So your information and advice is and will be always appreciated. Thank you and all the best Don
