First post to the forum, usually can find answers in the archive, but not now. Here is my situation. I have an 85hp 1976 model Evinrude that I got last fall, not running. I checked compression, 120-122 on all 4 cylinders. I rebuilt the carbs as they were very gummed up from sitting. I could not get any spark. I have a single cylinder adjustable air gap spark tester that I set at 7/16" and had no spark on all 4. On a whim, I ordered a New CDI power pack and installed. The motor fired up and ran fine on the muffs. I ran stabil in the fuel and ran seafoam through the engine for an hour or so. The motor ran fine. I stored the boat under cover over the winter and broke it out the other day. I could not get it to start, so I shot some 2 cycle mix into the carbs with a spray bottle thinking the carbs may be gummed again. Nothing. I then checked for spark in this rudementary way. I had a piece of solid copper 14g wire that I grounded to a block bolt, then wrapped the other end around the threads of the plug. When I tested the plugs this way, I had spark at the plugs. I could not get this motor to fire at all. Tore the carbs down again and they were clean, clean, clean. So, I put my spark tester on each cylinder with 7/16" gap and no spark on any cylinders. My conclusion is this, I do not have a fuel issue. I have weak spark to all 4 plugs when tested the primitive way, but no spark jumping a proper gap. I even tried a smaller gap and nothing. I also disconnected black/yellow wire at power pack with no change. Please help. Is it possible that my "New" power pack with one hour of run time is bad??
