"Took boat to lake today and when at ramp started motor after about 5 min I had the heak scared out of me. It was a loud buzzing sound from my throttle controls. So i killed the motor let it sit for a cpl of min and tried to start again and the buzer was still going off . With the key off no sound but trn key on lotsssss of sound. Pulled boat out of water let it set and trnd key buzz sound again but after about 20 min no more sound. My question is what was it and what caused it. When I put ears on it or lower unit in barrel to run at house never got that sound. Did i break something. I see no weep hole above water , only exhaust vents. Boat sat for 6 years in barn is it the water pump or fuel restricton"

"Ok can anyone explaine. Just ran the muffs in my yard at idle, high idle and foward and reverse at diff speeds for about 10 min. Motor is able to be touched with out being burned . You can leave your hand on any part and not hurt. Could I have goten it hot by trying to get it started at the ramp that the pump was unable to run long enough to cool engine. with muffs on wtr comes thru wtr pump hole and pures great. I also had to tweek linkage to make the high idle lever work which did not wrk at ramp so i could never get motor to run right to even stay started long enough and it repeatedly stalled. Any ideas"
 
The hose will help a weak impe

The hose will help a weak impeller get water to the engine. If the impeller is worn it will not pump enough water on it's own at idle. This is why there was no water from the pee hose on the ramp.
Alarm was the over heat warning.
Check the impeller.
 
This motor does not have a pee

This motor does not have a pee hole above the watr line. Only the 2 slits below the cowling for the exaughst. I also have a 55 gallon barrel I put the lower unit into at home. When i run it in the barrel it also runs fine . But i will take your advice on a week impeller. prob not a bad idea to repalce . Can a shade tree mechanic do it or is it a hard job
